Donna Rose Snyder, 94, of Walbridge, Ohio, went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 17, 2026. She passed away at her home in Walbridge. She was born in the summer of 1932 at the home of her parents, Leonard and Effie Firtney, in Sylvania, Ohio. They both preceded her in death.
After losing her father at the age of six in a work related accident, her mother moved the family to a farm just outside Delta, Ohio in 1939. Her mother’s two previous marriages resulted in a total of seven children living on the farm. While living on the farm Donna attended Brailey School, a one room schoolhouse that taught grades 1-8.
In 1942, fire destroyed the farmhouse. With the start of World War II, only two children remained, as one half brother was married, as was a half-sister, and three other half brothers enlisted in the Army. Her older sister, Mary, was still at home with her as the family moved to a house in Delta.
Donna was now a fifth grader at Delta Elementary where she met a blonde haired young man named Doran. The two would become a couple not long after. While on their way to becoming 1950 Delta High School graduates, Donna played French horn in the marching band and Doran (better known as “Jake”) was a three sport star athlete.
On December 15, 1951, they were married while Doran attended Findlay College as an education major. The couple moved to Pandora and to East Toledo and finally to Walbridge in 1961, as two sons, Mike and Craig arrived on the scene.
Soon after settling in Walbridge, Donna was hired as the office secretary at Walbridge Elementary and then in 1971 she was named the Clerk-Treasurer of Lake Local Schools. She served in that capacity until her retirement in 1988. Following her retirement she went on to serve Toledo Christian Schools for another 11 years as an athletic secretary.
Donna was a faithful member of Perrysburg Alliance Church for more than four decades. She was a quiet, helpful soul who loved to feed people with her own incredible skills in the kitchen.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 64 years, her sister, Mary Krauss. Six half-brothers, Wade Butler, Ellsworth Butler, Gerald Richardson, Marion Richardson, Kenneth Richardson, Delbert Fortney, a half-sister, Ruth (Fortney)Ranville and her grandson, Elias Palletta.
To cherish her memory she leaves behind her two sons; Mike (Mimi) Snyder of Pickerington, Ohio and Craig (Vicki) Snyder of Walbridge, Ohio. Surviving grandchildren include; Josh (Amy)Snyder of Beverly Hills, California, Sara (Drew)Beat of Pickerington, Ohio, Dane (Elizabeth)Snyder of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Kurt (Amita) Snyder of Troy, Ohio and Kele (Josh) Siegel of Perrysburg, Ohio. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 22, 2026 at Lake Township Cemetery. Her arrangements have been entrusted to the Sunrise Cremations and Funerals, the Robert Shank, Sr. chapel, 701 North Main Street, Walbridge, Ohio.
