Donald Devries

Korean War Veteran Donald J. DeVries, age 83, of Toledo, Ohio went to join his wife, Sharon, in Heaven on February 9, 2016 with his family by his side. He was born on August 10, 1932 in Toledo, Ohio. He married the love of his life, Sharon, on May 5, 1956. They were married for 58 years, until Sharons passing on March 5, 2015. He was a very dedicated Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, always providing for and making time for his family. In December 1994, after 40 years of service, he retired from the CSX Railroad. He was the last crew member to retire who was hired in when CSX was the Toledo Terminal, and even made the Peach section of the local newspaper applauding his accomplishments. Some of his many interests included: hunting, fishing, trains, golf, lunching with his fellow retirees, spending time with his family and playing cards with friends at VFW post 606. He was also a previous member and officer of the Fraternal Order of Eagles 197. Don is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon DeVries and family friend, Roger L. Pleasant. He is survived by his loving family; daughters, Julie (Dave) DeVries, Lori (Bill) LeVally, grandchildren, Michael (Heather) DeVries, Josh (Ashley) & Ali Coleman, great-grandchildren, Logan, Mikaylah, Lucas, Linkin & Dominic, Cousin Sue and very special friends, Kelly & Lin Furry & boys. His family would like to extend their appreciation to Dr. Upamaka Rao and the amazing staff at Flower Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 2-8p.m. at H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd., Toledo, OH 43613. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016. Interment will be in Toledo Memorial Park, 6382 Monroe St., Sylvania, OH 43560.
