Dolores Duslak-Harkison, age 85, of Lambertville, Michigan, passed away Monday, September23, 2013 with her loving family by her side at Aspen Grove Assisted Living. She was born in Ida, Michigan on August 19, 1928 to Norman and Emma (Orns) Ruettinger. Dolores was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Duslak in 1994 and Frederick Harkison in 2003. Dolores was raised along with her older brother Don and younger sister Shirley on a farm in Ida Michigan, where Faith in the Lord, working hard, and service to others were the values instilled in her. She grew up and into a woman who exemplified those values. Soft spoken Dolores, whose first question to you was always something about how your relative was doing (she would know their name) lived life well, taking care of her family, helping others, and seeing some of the Lords world she found such a marvel. She once told a daughter-inlaw that as a young girl her hero had been Amelia Earhart because she just loved the whole idea of flying; and to picture a woman up there in the sky like that flying a plane and being able to see the whole world, well that was what she had hoped to see. But long before she had the chance to travel a bit she began married life with Joseph Duslak, her husband of 47 years, and started their family. Dolores was always active in church and for the past 50 years has been a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Over the many years, no matter what the task, Dolores could always be counted on when a call for service came from church. Dolores was also very active in all of her childrens school functions, serving as room mother and on various PTAs throughout the years. After her children were grown, Dolores devoted much of her time to caring for elder relatives, and volunteer work at the Lutheran Home of Monroe County. Whether it was visiting the sick or sewing cancer pads, Dolores was always there behind the scene lending a hand for those in need. When not there, she took joy in caring for her ever growing family of grandchildren. Each one has special memories of the individual times spent with Grandma Duslak. A few years after the death of her first husband, Dolores met Fredrick Harkison and they married a year later. Though their time together was short, they found happiness in each other,s company playing cribbage, attending his Shriners functions and traveling. They traveled to Canada, Nova Scotia, and Scotland to visit various relatives. Dolores is survived by her loving children, Diana (Tom) Roberts, Jim (Judy) Duslak, Steve (Pat) Duslak, John (Pam Havers) Duslak: grandchildren Kris (Paul), Jayson (Sheryle), Jason (Sasha), Jeff (Jes), Jodi (Curt), Jennifer, Jill (Adam), Jacquelyn, great grandchildren: Alex, Emily, Kelsi, Carsen, Joseph, Ethan, Caleb and Brookelynn, Clara, brother, Donald (Joan) Ruettinger.
