Diana Shaffer

January 17, 1944 — October 18, 2021

With sadness, love, and deep gratitude, the family of Diana Louise Shaffer shares the news of her passing on October 18, 2021. She was born to Elliott and Helen Baldwin on January 17, 1944 and was a devoted daddy’s girl. She grew up in Toledo and graduated from Springfield High School. Dedicated wife to Richard Shaffer (stepdaughter, Lisa Shaffer) for 35 years, they made their home in Holland, Ohio and adored warm Caribbean vacations. Dearly loved mother to Lisa Stephens. Her love reached beyond circumstances and feelings. It saw past mistakes and helped guide me to embrace being perfectly imperfect, stand strong, and celebrate God’s gift of love. Cherished grandmother of Cassandra, Courtney, and Ashely. She was the “gram” at all their activities while growing up from school programs to sporting events. For Cassandra, motocross racing, Courtney, gymnastics meets, Ashley, cheerleading, and cross country meets for all. She was a faithful supporter and an always loving presence. Dear sister to Ruth Rodd (deceased brother-in-law, David) who affectionately called her Royal Sister #1. From growing up riding horses to marriages, raising children, and welcoming grandchildren, they delighted in doing life together. Remembered as Aunt Di by her niece, Beth Hornyak and nephew, Brett Kachenmeister, and great nephews, Brennan Hornyak (wife, Ashley, son, Sullivan) and Nickolas Hornyak. All shared a silly sense of humor and laughs were always a part of gatherings. There was nothing Diana liked better than taking care of her yard and working in her flower beds. She firmly believed “Housework is for people who don’t know how to garden.” She enjoyed simple pleasures like feeding the birds and squirrels in her back yard, water exercise classes, watching NASCAR, and gatherings with family for birthdays and holidays. Diana retired from National Family Opinion as a word processor and continued using her talents at Providence Lutheran Church creating the newsletter. Her funeral service will be held on October 25, 2021 at 11:00am, at Providence Lutheran Church, 8131 Airport Hwy, Holland, OH 43528 followed by a luncheon in the Family Life Center. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walker Funeral Home, Holland Ohio.
