On Saturday, October 11, 2025, Dexter Gordon Holloway answered his Heavenly Father’s call to come home and rest.
Dexter was born on January 13, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio, to Phyllis and James Holloway, who preceded him in death. He accepted Christ at a young age, was baptized, and remained a lifelong member of Mt. Pilgrim Church.
He graduated from Libbey High School, where he excelled as a talented basketball player. His passion for the game continued at Walla Walla Community College, where he further distinguished himself on the court.
Dexter built a fulfilling career with Ford Motor Company, dedicating more than 30 years of service before retiring. Known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail, Dexter brought that same dedication to his home life — always busy with projects, whether landscaping the yard or tackling home improvements.
Family and friends knew Dexter as the chef of every holiday gathering. No celebration was complete without his signature dishes and his warm, joyful presence in the kitchen. He also enjoyed relaxing with a good movie or listening to his favorite music. A true sports enthusiast, Dexter loved cheering on his favorite teams and sharing in the excitement of the game.
Dexter leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of nearly 25 years, Karen; his mother, Phyllis; stepfather, Herb Peters; sister, Kimberly Guy; daughter, Davona Sanders (Daniel); sons, Derek Holloway (Mitzi), Dexter Holloway Jr., Darrick Holloway, and Calvin Harris.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren — Ojunae’, Daniel, Deon, Jhakari, Khalif, Tajhani, Darrick, Aysia, and Amari — and his great-grandchildren — Reagan, Savannah, Jamal, Ava, Daniel, Hailey, and Cali — along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Dexter’s life was one of quiet strength, deep love, and unwavering devotion to family. His kindness, laughter, and generous spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends will be received at the Ray Neville Chapel at Sunrise Cremations and Funerals, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, OH 43528 on Friday, November 7, 2025 from 2:00 pm until Dexter's Celebration of Life at 3:00 pm.
The family of Dexter G. Holloway is deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by St. Joseph's Hospital and its dedicated staff, including the doctors, nurses, and all who cared for him during his stay. We would also like to give a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio Ebeid Hospice for the love and care they provided Dexter and his family. Your dedication and hard work will never be forgotten.
