David Robert Mall, 84, went to rejoice with the Lord on the afternoon of Friday, October 2, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at his family home in Toledo.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Beulah; and his parents-in-law, Ralph and Marguerite McCloud.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Sharon; daughter, Jennifer; sons, Aaron (Jaclyn) and Jason (Heather); grandchildren, Cole (Zoe), Christina (Caleb), Grace, Aidan, and Tannar; great-grandchildren, RJ and Hudson; sister-in-law, Janet; and his many cousins.
Dave was born to Walter and Beulah (Ritter) Mall on February 16, 1942, in Toledo, where he lived for the majority of his life. During his early years he spent summers at the farm in Fremont with his many cousins. He graduated from Libbey High School in 1960. Dave met Sharon (McCloud) when they were in elementary school and just friendly neighbors. She later came to be his wife of over 62 years, having married on July 18, 1964. They went on to share many adventures together including moving around the country for his service in the United States Army. When Dave enlisted in 1964, he spent time in Germany before marrying Sharon. He then became commissioned and moved with Sharon to Rhode Island, Oklahoma, and California, mostly working in artillery training. Once honorably discharged in 1969, Dave and Sharon settled back in Toledo. They went on to raise three loving children, Jennifer, Aaron, and Jason.
Dave worked for many years in the IT field at Owens Illinois and Federal Mogul (Champion Sparkplug), having retired from both. Dave and Sharon loved to travel together, enjoyed taking family vacations and sharing time and experiences with dear friends. He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, assisting on the property committee and with audio/visual for Sunday services.
Dave loved to work with his hands. He learned how to woodwork, build, work on cars and many other things from his father-in-law, Ralph. The two even built the garage and an addition to the family home together. Dave had a long-time interest in photography, having his own dark room and a small business doing wedding photography. If there was a special event of any kind Dave would be there with his own camera taking as many photos as he could to capture the memories. He really enjoyed his last road trip across the U.S., ending with salmon fishing with his children on the coast of Oregon. His family meant the world to him.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1825 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43614, on Sunday, October 18, 2026. Visitation will start at 12 pm, with the service starting at 1 pm. A luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Honor Flight or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
