Darlene Marie Smith

Darlene Marie Erb Smith, age 94, of Holland, Ohio died peacefully on April 11, 2025, at Elizabeth Scott Community. Darlene was born July 10, 1930, in Augusta, Ohio to the late Peter Ellsworth and Wilma (Moore) Erb.

Darlene was a caregiver and homemaker for her family for most of her life. After the retirement of her husband, Paul, she spent much of her time in volunteer service as their expression of devout faith in Jesus Christ. Darlene and Paul went on several mission trips to Central America. They served their faith communities; Christian Retreat (Florida), Light and Life (Florida), Waterville Methodist Church (Ohio) and the former Roberts Chapel Free Methodist Church (Ohio), at every opportunity. She was currently a member of Holland Free Methodist Church. Darlene will also be remembered for her love of studying, teaching and journaling her love for God and His Word. She was a shining example of her faith, loving others in her words and actions. Darlene deeply loved all her family as they loved her too.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark (Leslie) Smith, Randy Smith, Karen (John) Nahorny, and Carolyn (Royce) Underwood; ten grandchildren; thirty-eight great grandchildren; and brother, Paul Erb. Darlene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 72 years, Paul Smith; great grandsons, Timothy Scott Price and Judah Michael Buckenmeyer, and siblings, Mary Ann Laferty and Pauline Angeloni.

Darlene will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Springfield Township Cemetery in Holland. A public memorial service to honor her life will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday April 23, 2025, at Holland Free Methodist Church, 6605 Angola Road, Holland, Ohio 43528.
