Charles Roland Walker

Charles Roland Walker, age 95 of Toledo, passed away on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Ebeid Hospice in Sylvania. Charles was born on June 26, 1919 to Floyd and Eulah (Beeler) Walker in Luke, MD. At a young age, Charles and his family moved to Toledo. Charles served his country honorably in the US Army during WWII serving in the European Campaign. He retired at the age of 62 and began a second career as a self-employed painter. After his retirement, he and his wife Elaine traveled extensively. They were both advocates for schooling for the disabled starting with Lott Day School and Lott Industries. He was a generous, compassionate, humorous, selfless, devoted man as well as a role model and inspiration to family and friends. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed his garden, loved to paint, and loved his dog Brandy. Charles is survived by his sons, Robert and Wayne Skip; daughters-in-law, Shannon and Karen; grandchildren, Kerri, Casey (Wendy), Shanon (Kurt), Steven (Kelly), and Kevin; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 62 years, Elaine; son, Richard; and all his siblings, Emma, Louise, Kenneth, and Floyd. We know that he and Elaine are now dancing together in Heaven! Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home 3219 Tremainsville Road, 419-473-1301. Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Trilby United Methodist Church followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Larry Swaisgood officiating.
