Charles T. Jacobs, age 92 of Toledo, Ohio passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. He was the first born son of Cornia and Letha (Bowling) Jacobs, born on the family farm on June 4, 1923 in Petersburg, Michigan. He graduated from Lambertville High School in 1941. A retired tool and die maker from General Motors Powertrain after working there for over 21 years. He was also employed at Kaiser Jeep and Schultz Die Casting after having entered the trade at the Bohn Aluminum and Brass Corp. in Adrian, Michigan. Charlie was an active Mason, churchgoer and union member for most of his adult life. Being raised to the Degree of Master Mason at Fort Industry Lodge #630 F & AM on Feb. 12, 1951 and being High Priest of Fort Industry Chapter #208, R.A.M. in June 1959. He first became a member of the UAW in March 1943 while working in Adrian and soon saw the advantages of being a union member. Charles began to participate in its activities, eventually being elected to office in all the units and locals to which, he at the time belonged. His most recent offices were President of UAW Local #14 Retiree Chapter and recording secretary of the 9 member UAW Retiree Council Region 2-B. He was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Toledo, and still led an active life, attending the functions of which he was a member. Charles married Gloria Griggs in 1947. He and his wife, Gloria have traveled extensively all over the USA, England, Ireland, and Scotland, Mexico, Canada and Central America. Charles was especially fond of the cruises to the islands of the Caribbean. Having been taught to read at an early age by his mother, a former school teacher, Charlie had a life-long love of the printed page and similar pursuits, like cross-word puzzles and word games. Charles was also a Civil War buff. A dyed-in-the-wool Democrat, he was active in politics and took pride in the fact he was able to vote for FDR for his 3rd term in 1944. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cornia and Letha Jacobs, brother, Herbert, Harrys twin. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Gloria Jacobs, son, James (Tara) Jacobs, daughter, Barbara Jacobs- Vajen, grandchildren, Jessica Jacobs, Clinton Jacobs, Lauren Vajen and Krysta (Kevin) Heitzman. His great grandchildren Colton and Jayden and was happily waiting for his 3rd, great grandson, Korvin Heitzman. Also survived by brother, Harry (Alice) Jacobs along with several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd (419-473-1301) on Thursday, July 2 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Masonic services will begin at 7:30 pm. on Thursday. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 am on Friday, July 3, with Reverend Alan R. Swartz from Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Whiteford Union Cemetery.
