Charles Hartman

Charles H. Hartman 85, of Holland, OH, after a hard-fought fight with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease, entered his eternal life on August 18, 2022, at Hospice of NW Ohio, Toledo. The son of Richard and Ethel (Schiffer), he was born on November 12, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio. Charles was a 1954 graduate of Holland (Springfield) High School, where meek and mild Charlie played a rough and tough center (#11) on the football team. He also participated in Basketball, Baseball, and Track. Charlie married Barbara Heeter on June 7, 1958. They had two children, Charles W. Hartman (Shari) and Cynthia L. (Hartman) Giles who preceded him in death on August 2, 2022. Surviving are his four grandsons, C.J., Patrick (Lindsey), Christopher (Kara), Samuel (fiancé Abby Martin), great grandsons, William, Chandler, and great granddaughters, Eleanor, and Hadlie. Also surviving are his sisters, Virginia Cairl, Mary Swope, Wilma Blankenship, Carol Kobach, Linda Hartman and brother, John Hartman, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Lois Johnson, Joanne Weinstock, Leslie Spencer and brothers, Richard and infant baby brother. Also, his son-in-law Mike Giles.

Charlie was employed by Scholz Homes where he worked up to the position of Director of Purchases which entailed among many other things, the purchase of lumber and plywood by the truckload. When that company closed, he became a partner in Seneca Lumber and Millwork, traveling daily to Fostoria for 10 years. He retired when that company closed. Charlie was an active member of Living Faith UM Church. He enjoyed working with the youth in the after-school program, served on various committees, and worked tirelessly on maintaining the church grounds and property, including mowing the grass with a gas-powered push mower the very hot morning of his wedding day, June 7, 1958.

Visitation will be on Tuesday August 23, 2022, from   4:00 - 7:00 p.m., at Walker Funeral Home, 7438 Airport Hwy, Holland, OH 43528. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial service will take place at Wakeman Cemetery in Waterville, OH.  Anyone wishing to donate is asked to consider The Alzheimer’s Association.
