Celestina Mata

Celestina (Soto) Mata, 88, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep December 27, 2016 to be with our Lord. She was born May 4,1928 to Juan and Nieves Soto in Laredo Texas. Celestina married Gumersindo Mata Sr. on July 24, 1944. She worked for Mercy Health St.Vincents Medical Center for 25 years. Celestina enjoyed Mexican and Tejano music. She enjoyed cooking Mexican dishes for her family and spending lots of time with all of her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gumersindo Mata Sr., daughter Elodia Mata, her grandson, Louis Mata Jr. and brothers and sisters. Celestina was the beloved mother of sons, Gumersindo (Mary Lou) Mata Jr., Jose (Dolores) Mata Sr ., Louis (Kathy) Mata Sr ., Juan Daniel Sr ., daughter, Yolanda (Robert) Morrison; beloved grandmother to twenty- five grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren and devoted nieces, nephews and former daughters-in-law, Oliva and Michelle, many loving friends to cherish her memories.The family would like to express their appreciation to the doctors, therapists and nursing staff of theLuther Homes Society in Toledo, Ohio. Your kindness, patience, and compassion to our loved one and to our family will forever be remembered.The family will receive guests on Monday, January 2, 2017 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Road, Toledo, Ohio 43613, (419-473-1301). Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm in the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Tuesday (go directly to church) at Saints Adalbert- Hedwig Catholic Church, 3233 Lagrange at Oakland from 10:00 am until start of Mass of the Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Restlawn Cemetery.
