Carol Jean Barber Gilbert

Carol Jean Gilbert loving wife and devoted mother, age 79, of Toledo, Ohio, gently passed away Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 16, 1930 to Irvin and Mary (Hummell) Barber.Carol was raised in Ironville and later met and married the love of her life Thomas (Bud) Gilbert and resided in the same Trilby house for 58 years. She worked at Josephs supermarket in the produce department till there closure. Carol was an avid University of Toledo fan and a Rocket Club member. One of her pride enjoys was her garden where she grew her prize winning roses that were enjoyed by all.She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Irvin (Pete) Barber, sister Margaret Barber. Carol is survived by her loving husband, children Mike (Stephanie) Gilbert, Joyce (Bob) Wilkinson, Sandra (Mark) Draper and James Gilbert, 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, brother Jack (Laura) Barber, sister Janet Finn and her special sister-in-law MaryAnn Barber. A special thank you is sent to Hospice and Nurse Deb Deuschle for taking Carol outside to feel the sun and wind on her face for her last day in this world.Visitation for Carol will be at H. H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd (at Alexis), (419)473-1301 on Tuesday May 26 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday May 27 at 10:00 AM.
