Blanche Charlean Long

September 5, 1943 — January 29, 2023

Blanche Charlean Long died peacefully in her sleep on January 29, 2023. Known to most as Charlean, she was born to Charles and Virginia (Harr) Lucas on September 5, 1943, in Richmond, Virginia.

In her early years, she worked for the National Security Agency as a secretary and liked to joke about her knowledge of top-secret government practices. During that time she took a chance on a blind date with James Long. She married her best friend in 1965, and together they made a home.

Charlean was highly devoted to her family. She spent the rest of her years caring for her children as a homemaker. Kindness and encouragement came very naturally to her, even though she was very shy. She and Jim tackled everything as a team, and together they served faithfully in their church nursery.

If there was a game, activity or event for the family, you would find Charlean there, rooting everyone on. Often the family would take camping trips to Lake Ontario, travel to amusement parks, or a planned vacation with all the children and grandchildren. Spending time with family was top priority for her. You could always find a bag of plain M&M’s at her home or Whoppers. Those, paired with a Pepsi, were some of her favorite treats.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Michele (John) Mitchell, Jackie (Dennis) Braden, Chuck (Emily) Long; nine grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; and siblings Golda (Kenny) Robinson, and Russell Harr.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 12, from 11 am -1 pm with a funeral service beginning at 1pm at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home at 701 N. Main St. in Walbridge, Ohio. Interment will be private at Lake Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a gift to the Alzheimer's Association in Charlean’s honor.
