Betty Lou Frey

November 11, 1934 — February 13, 2022

Betty Lou (Kobil) Frey, November 11, 1934--February 13, 2022

Betty Lou (Kobil) Frey, age 87, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on February 13, 2022, at Promedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Betty was born on the East Side of Toledo, Ohio, on November 11, 1934, the daughter of Frank and Mary Langel. Betty was a 1952 graduate of Waite High School.  After graduation, she obtained her associate degree and worked as a histology technician at Flower Hospital in Toledo.  In 1953, she married Walter Kobil, with whom she had three children, Daniel, Susan, and Jenifer.   After Walter passed away in 2004, Betty remarried her friend of many years, Jim Frey.  They lived together in Sylvania, Ohio, until Jim preceded her in death in 2021.

Betty was a long-time member of the North Congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, on Alexis Road.  She maintained her faith throughout her life and enjoyed sharing her beliefs with others by going door-to-door as long as her health permitted.

Betty was also an avid homemaker who studied nutrition and enjoyed cooking for her friends and family.  Betty was proud of her Hungarian heritage and was adept at cooking traditional dishes such as chicken paprikash and dobos torte.  Betty likewise was an enthusiastic traveler, with a particular love of St. Petersburg, Florida, London, England, Ft. Augustus, Scotland, and Paris, France, which she often visited.

Betty is survived by her children, Daniel Kobil, Susan Pettit, and Jenifer Ruffing, all of Columbus, Ohio, and her grandchildren Emma and Andrew Kobil, of Denver, Colorado.   Betty was preceded in death by her husbands, Walter Kobil and Jim Frey, her parents, Frank and Mary Langel, and her sisters, Mary Phelps and Anna Hentges.

All are invited to join Betty’s family and friends at a memorial service that will be held remotely at 1:00 p.m. on March 12, 2022.  If you are interested in obtaining a link to attend the service on Zoom, please contact Leonard Buckholtz at (419) 973-3333, or e-mail Dan Kobil at dkobil@law.capital.edu .
