Barbara Alice Heesen HarerMarch 7, 1927 November 19, 2024Barbie Harer was a Toledo native growing up on Hopewell. Her mother, Frances Spieker married George Heesen who partnered in the Heesen-Haskell Jewelry store downtown Toledo.Barbie attended the University of Toledo and was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. In 1947 she was the Glassbowl princess which she thought was great fun. That same year she met Richard J. Harer and they were married January 31, 1948 at Hope Lutheran Church on Secor. They moved to Edwards Air Force Base to continue Richards post war career as a test pilot and Civil Engineer moving off base to Lancaster, California.Barbie was very active in her community, volunteering at voting centers, acting as Girl Scout and Brownie leader, filling in as home secretary to dad, and shuffling calendars for her 4 children. She hosted many bridge clubs, joined bowling leagues, traveled to many countries around the world, always with Dick by her side. They were inseparable over 71 years of marriage.A private family gathering was held in her home attended by her loving family, children Linda, Leslie, Lisa, Karl, and Michele, cousins Judy and Steve, as well as a few close family friends. We are deeply grateful to Hospice of Northwest Ohio for the wonderful care she received.Mom and Dad are now both together and we miss them both immensely.
