Alva V. Lewis, Jr.

Alva Vinton Lewis Jr., 77, of Whitehouse OH, born January 18, 1944, died February 24, 2021. Alva “Red” Lewis Jr., son of Alva and Ruby Lewis, loving husband of Linda (Morgan) Lewis, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 24th at Addison Heights Health and Rehab Center and under Hospice care after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He is survived by his loving wife Linda; children, Ernest Lewis, Scott Lewis (Frankie), Elizabeth Lewis-Smith (Don), and Mande Lewis-Cicerella (Tony); siblings, Jack Conner and Sandra Gill; and seven grandchildren, Nathan, Christopher, Zen, Morgan, Vincent, Ava and Elle. He is preceded in death by his son Brandon Lewis; grandson, Jordan Lewis; brother, Ernest Conner; and sister Shirley Kwon. Red worked as a machinist with Champion Spark Plug then with the UAW Local 12 until retiring as Director of Education and Development. He did four tours in Vietnam from 1963 to 1967 as a manual Morse code high speed radio intercept operator under the United States Army Security Agency, Semper Vigiles (Vigilant Always.) He also served as a Sergeant First Class with the 2087th USARF School for many years as an instructor of NCO Leadership Development Courses. In his youth, he enjoyed football, wrestling, and rabbit hunting with his father. Later, his passion was motorcycle riding with friends and his son Scott during Rolling Thunder in Washington D.C., as well as many years riding with the Centurions Motorcycle Club. Red was a champion for those in need. He was a volunteer and board member of Leadership Toledo and Reading for Literacy and supported many other community organizations and causes throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Friends will be received on Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in Walker Funeral Home, Holland-Springfield Chapel, 7438 Airport Highway, Holland, OH 43528 (419-865-8879) where funeral services will be held following the visitation at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
