Alfred "Sonny" Fields, a proud and beloved combat veteran, was born on April 15, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois. He departed this life on June 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of strength and resilience.
Sonny was known for being a jokester and a load of fun to be around. He was also known for his courageous service as a Vietnam veteran in the United States Armed Forces, Army Special Forces; His bravery and sacrifice to his country over the course of his lifetime never fully seen and understood.
Outside of his military service, Sonny found peace in physical fitness, spending time with his friends and family and fishing. Whether by a quiet lake or among friends, he cherished the simple moments.
He survived by his children: Anika S. Fields (Bryant Lawson), Vatella Fields, Sonny Fields, and Arthur Stokes. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters, and a host of nieces and nephews. His Mother, Gertrude Counts, preceded him in permanent rest.
Sonny was blessed with a circle of spiritually bonded sisters who remained dear to his heart: Rita Daniels, Brenda Coleman, Jacklyn Williams, and Norma Eaton. He was the last surviving member of his close-knit cohort of friends, carrying with him the memories and bonds they shared.
Alfred "Sonny" Fields will be remembered for his humor, resilience, his service to this country, and his enduring spirit. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on through all who were touched by his life.

Memorial Service and Eulogy will be held on Wednesday June 17, 2026 at 930 A.M. at The Ray Neville Chapel at Sunrise Cremations and Funerals, Holland (7438 Airport Hwy), followed by Military Honors rendered by the U.S. Army. He will be laid to rest at Great Lakes national Cemetery, Holly, MI later that day.
