Alan Van Dyke, 73 of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2021 at his home. He was born on October 28, 1947 to Wesley and Loretta (Koch) Van Dyke. He grew up in Ottawa Lake, Michigan and lived his adult life there for a number of years. Alan graduated from the Whiteford Agricultural School in 1965 and later attended Ferris State.Alan loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as a lifetime member of the Great Northern Sportsman Club.He chose to work a number of different jobs throughout his life, whether that be as a heavy machine operator as a member of the Ohio Operating Engineers Local 18, often working for Rudolph Libbey, Alan always stayed busy. He started out in working at Modern Pattern and Plastics, and Libbey Owens Ford, and after years of doing so, his love for being outdoors encouraged him to buy a farm in Camden, Michigan and start his own business, Farm Drainage Systems, which he would go on to successfully run for 20 years.Alan is survived by his loving wife Alice Van Dyke; children Leslie Van Dyke, Cindy (Jeff) Tew, and Michael (Misty) Van Dyke; grandchildren Shelby, Colt, and Hailie Van Dyke, Kelsey Rodriguez, Kassidy Gilmore and Tanner Gilmore; also mother Loretta Van Dyke. He is preceded in death very recently by his father Wesley Van Dyke; his stepdaughter Jeanie Gilmore, and step niece Crystal Rowan. A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 4-8 PM at the Great Northern Sportsman Club (6255 Pelton Ln, Ottawa Lake, MI 49267).
