Abner “Butch” Owen Bryant, 75, of Swanton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2022, after suddenly falling sick. He was born on May 24, 1947, to his late parents Abner and Antonia Bryant where he was raised in Los Angeles before moving to the Midwest.
Butch graduated from Rogers High School and entered the Air Force immediately following. Once enlisted, he was stationed in Wyoming where he met his would-be future wife, Virginia Lane, marrying her at the age of 19. They spent over 40 years together until her passing in 2020. He served for 4 years during the Vietnam war spending most of that time stationed in Guam, transporting material to missile silos near Colorado, and loading cargo planes in Wyoming. He held the rank of Sergeant. From there he returned home and went to school to obtain his associates degree in accounting before working at Chrysler where he loyally remained for 30+ years until retiring.
Abner loved doing mechanic work as well as old muscle cars. He enjoyed piecing car parts together and crafting custom vehicles for car shows. He liked to follow college and NFL football, making an excel sheet every year to track the colleges schedules, scores, and spreads. Though he was not a crazy football fanatic, his dear team was The Ohio State Buckeyes and he always rooted for them. He also spent his free time doing yard work, cooking for special occasions like the holidays, and simply hanging out with his kids. Above all, Abner was a proud father of 3 and was typically a homebody. He was a levelheaded man but was also set in his ways and stood firm in his convictions.
His children will greatly miss when they would hang out together and watch movies, but mostly just his presence of being there for them.
Abner is survived by his children, Jonathan (Amanda) Bryant, Mandy (Benjamin) Bradfield, Kristen (Matthew) Hughes; grandchildren, Amelia May Bryant, William James Bryant; and many other relatives and friends.
